Last night was one of my co-worker’s birthdays, so my boss and another coworker, her friend and MacD went to an Irish Pub in Fallbrook. It was loud and crowded and not really me or MacD’s scene, but there was Guinness on tap and the band played some really cool covers. MacD drank lots of Guinness, Black Velvet drinks and Johnny Walker Black and cokes. At one point in the night, we bought the birthday girl shots of Patron tequila, and the band sang happy birthday to her. Some random drunk dude came up to our table and tried to sit in a chair across from us but couldn’t make it. So he sat beside MacD on the bench seats and took birthday girl’s shots. Two out of the three of them. His friend found him and thought the shots were his friends, who took the last one. The girls sitting next to us were very shocked/apologetic and were about to buy new shots (I’m assuming they knew the guy and were going to take responsibility for him) when the rest of the group came back from dancing. There was a big misunderstanding but it worked itself out. It was a pretty funny situation because the drunk guy was at such a point of drunkenness that you couldn’t say no to him, he wouldn’t have understood. We ended up closing out the bar, which was a first for me.

We (the hubby and I) finally had our official housewarming party. I invited my friends/co-workers, MacD invited his. My mom also decided to show up, a few hours before our party started. This was to be expected, but she also knew we were having a party a few hours after she would show up. She also announced to me that my father would be coming over as well. That was unexpected. They came over, he saw me and the bump. There’s no hiding my belly now. Not even with a sweatshirt on. He also saw the ultrasound pictures on my fridge, and snooped ( I mean that, I didn’t actually give him a tour around my apartment), into our bedroom and saw the crib, clothes, changing table, etc. He didn’t say anything at all. Not once. He looked at me funny, almost in a longingly stare as if to say, “oh my god, my daughter is a grown up, what have you done getting knocked up and having this baby”. But he still didn’t say anything the whole time he was there. He did end up leaving early, to go to LA to meet a friend of his up there. My mother and sister stayed a full hour and a half after our guests first started showing up, watching tv. They made everyone uncomfortable. We all hung out around the kitchen, they stayed glued to the tv. The whole experience was very uncomfortable. I doubt my parents will even say anything now that everyone knows I’m pregnant. It’s just going to be that elephant in the room.
After my mom and sister left, everyone had a great time. We played Rockband and they drank margaritas and daiquiris and beer. I think everyone had fun (myself included), even though according to my husband, I separated myself by periodically watching my bids on ebay. He says I do that alot, become antisocial and tune everyone else out by playing on the computer, which in turns makes everyone feel they aren’t welcome. I prefer to disagree, I don’t think I turn antisocial, I still involve myself in conversations. I really don’t see a problem with it, especially when everyone else occasionally gets on the computer too. I guess that’s something that will always bug him though, and when he’s drunk he’ll let me know, just as he did last night.
