Thirteen Things I Love About Horses
1. Going fast when you ride. Wind blowing in your hair, hearing the thud of their hooves, moving in perfect harmony, just gets my adrenaline going.
2. Getting the horse sweaty. Sounds weird, but if they sweat I know they worked as hard as I did.
3. Jumping. Jumping is lots and lots of fun.
4. Training is fun too. In the horsey world, some horses are considered “ring-bound”, because going outside of the arena , to trail ride, is too much for them, they get scared too easily. I think of myself ring-bound, because I love to train.
5. Bathing. It’ good bonding time with the horse.
6. When I get sore after riding. It means I worked hard.
7. Getting into such a groove with your horse, that it can just practically read your mind. I’ve only been with a few horses like that, out of the dozens I’ve ridden.
8. The scent of Eau de Horse: The scent of sweat, leather, hay, manure, and horse. Only horse lovers can appreciate that beautiful perfume.
9. Bonding time. Just being there with the horse, giving treats and grooming while talking to them. And if you’re there long enough, it seems like they listen to what you say.
10. How they whinny to greet you when you come up to visit them. It means they know you and associate you with treats.
11. How they can be stubborn sometimes. It gives me a purpose in training. If they were perfect all the time, I’d get bored.
12. When they get scared and try to run away. Cuz it means that you have more sensitivity training to do.
13. Because when I’m having a bad day, I’ll go see them, and they seem to know I had a bad day and give me an extra nuzzle as if to say, it’s ok, I still love you.
